Below are a number of recommended itineraries, depending on how much time you have available and whether you want to focus on the British landings, US landings or both!.
These form the basis of our scheduled tours above or can be used on your preferred date as a bespoke tour.
Departing on the Portsmouth night ferry on day 1, you will arrive the following morning at the Normandy coast, at the same time at the D-Day landings. You will first visit JUNO beach where we will look at the actions of the 3rd Canadian Division, the beach obstacles and the innovative Hobart's Funnies. You will then visit the Longues-sur-Mer gun battery, part of the formidable Atlantic Wall where you will start to understand the the extent of the defensive plan before finishing the day at GOLD Beach and the mission of 50th British Division and Arromanche, the location of the famous Mulberry Harbours. You will be accommodated within Bayeux, where you will get the chance to visit the Cathedral, Bayeux Tapestry and enjoy the local restaurants.
On the final day, you will visit The British Cemetery on the Bayeux ring road before heading to the famous Pegasus Bridge to understand more about the British 6th Airborne Division and their role in protecting the Eastern flank. You will catch the late afternoon ferry back to Portsmouth, arriving in the UK at approximately 2130hrs.
This tour is ideal for those with limited time and live within the South for quick access to Portsmouth. This is often delivered Friday night through to Sunday evening to avoid the need to take time away from work, but can easily be mid-week.

Departing on the Portsmouth night ferry on day 1, you will arrive the following morning at the Normandy coast, at the same time at the D-Day landings. Following a quick stop at a local boulangerie, you will first visit Hillman fortress, where you will introduced to the 3rd British Divisions area of responsibility and SWORD beach. The next stop will be the famous Pegasus Bridge and the nearby museum, where you will learn about the British 6th Airbourne Divisions role in protecting the eastern flank and the efforts of Maj Howard and his men in capturing both bridges. You will also get the chance to pop into Cafe Gondree, the first building to be liberated and still owned by the same family.
You will then have a chance for lunch along the SWORD beach front, before visiting the 'Grand Bunker'. We try to finish the day by 1500hrs due to the early start, with the hotel within walking distance of the centre of Bayeux, where you will get the chance to visit the Cathedral, Bayeux Tapestry and enjoy the local restaurants.
On day 3, the second full day, you will start by visiting JUNO Beach and the 3rd Candian Division's area of responsibility where you will learn about the beach obstacles and engineering innovation. Following this, you will visit the new Normandy British Memorial, overlooking GOLD beach, built to remember all those that died under British Command in the Battle for Normandy, before to moving to Arromanche to consider the 50th British Division and the famous Mulberry Harbours; you will also get an opportunity to grab a bite to eat in the town. Finally, you will visit the Gun battery at Longues-sur-Mer before returning to the hotel for a well deserved rest.
On the final day, you will visit The British Cemetery on the Bayeux ring road and discuss the logistical challanges faced by the allies before heading back to the ferry for the late afternoon ferry back to Portsmouth, arriving in the UK at approximately 2130hrs.
